Rituals and blessings are some of the ways that we acknowledge the sacred in our midst and the sacred quality of Life – and all of its joys, sorrows, transitions and celebrations.
I have been creating and leading rituals for over twenty years. The obvious ones – weddings (all kinds!), memorial services (also all kinds), sacred meals, baptism/blessing/adoption/naming ceremonies. The less obvious rituals – family blessings/rituals for the dying, house blessings, family tree plantings after losing a loved one, scattering of ashes, divorce/ending ritual circle, healing rituals, sound healing, graduations, maturing, aging and coming of age (again and again!) rituals.
What is a blessing?
A blessing is a circle of light drawn around a person to protect, heal and strengthen.
…It is a gracious invocation where the human heart pleads with the divine heart.
When a blessing is invoked, a window opens in eternal time.
-John O’Donohue
If you have a special life event that you feel needs more than just the “stuff” of life, but instead needs a deeper acknowledgement of its significance, a ritual is probably in order. I would love to talk over possible options with you and bring to life the sacred moment which you envision.
Just to be is a blessing, just to live is holy.
-Abraham Joshua Heschel
